As you give, so shall you receive, in good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over. Here, in these few words, Jesus revealed the deep spiritual principal that whatever you give out will come back to you multiplied many times over. Although deceptively simple, few of us realize how profoundly this principle affects us.
Experience comes to most of us so quickly that, without even realizing it, we react with an action, a word, or a thought. However, with virtually every action we take, every word that we speak, and every thought that we entertain, we give out. And by the law of giving, we get back many times over whatever we give out.
If you are dissatisfied with what you have received, choose then that which you would have, and give freely that which you have chosen. If you would have love, then give love. If you would have friendship, then give friendship. If you would have kindness, then give kindness.
Give first with your thoughts, for your thoughts are the fundamental building blocks of your words and your actions. No action occurs and no words are spoken without first appearing in your thoughts. If through your thoughts you consistently give love, friendship, kindness, or whatever you would have, your words and actions will soon follow and, by the law of giving, you will receive back an abundance of the same.
